We’re spotlighting talent in the cosplay community!
Every month, The Variant showcases cosplayers who display talent, creativity, and a positive voice within the cosplay community.
Hey guys!! I’m Belleawsum Cosplays!!!
When I was a kid, I grew up on Disney, cartoons and syfy. I had a huge imagination and would often get lost in my own world. Then I discovered anime…It was like a whole new world opened up to me and I was immediately hooked! After attending my first anime convention back in 2008, I was introduced to cosplay and it blew my mind to see people dressed up as some of my favorite characters! It’s safe to say, cosplay helped me truly find myself and allowed me to become comfortable in my own skin. Through cosplay, I found a way to channel my imagination into reality!
My style of cosplay tends to fluctuate with the characters I choose, but I love adding my own little flair to each costume I wear. I had very poor self esteem from childhood up until young adulthood and some days are still a struggle, but cosplay helps boost my confidence in tremendous ways! I tend to gravitate towards sexy but tasteful and typically pick my favorite characters or just characters with a similar body type to mine. The best thing about cosplay is the freedom to be whoever, whenever and you’re only limited to your own imagination!
So last January we shot our #29DaysofBlackCosplaySpotlights feature with 29 brand new shoots of 29 INCREDIBLE POC Cosplay Spotlights. It was right on the cusp of the pandemic hitting.
While we’re sad that we couldn’t do something so enormous this year, we have two entirely new sets of AMAZING pics of Belleawsum Cosplays as DC Comics’ Blackfire and Chun-Li from Street Fighter stunningly shot by staff photog Greenfield Photography!!!!!!!
BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE!!!
All month long we will also be showcasing as many of our POC Cosplay Spotlights from last year and previous years as possible!!!!
WAIT!!…why are you still reading this??
GO CHECK OUT THE PICS!!!!
