I’ve always loved stories. It doesn’t really matter what medium it comes in, I love to watch a world build and see how characters grow and are shaped as the plot unravels. It always really fascinating to me growing up but it was also a struggle to discuss those feelings with other people. I learned to keep it mostly to myself over the years, until about 9 years ago when I went to my first convention and found a whole new world unfold in front of me.

I have a tendency to develop strong emotional attachments to certain characters but by cosplaying those characters, I feel like I can show instead of telling everyone the love I hold for them, or their series in general. The amazing thing is, there are so many other people out there who have that same fondness and finding like-minded people at cons allows me to express my feelings for the characters with people I know will understand.

Cosplay was like a gateway to the nerd community for me, and what a welcoming community it is! I even got my family hooked and it is something we’ve bonded over and do together now. I’m still an awkward introvert, mind you, but cosplay has this strange effect of imbuing me with a sense of confidence and joy. If this past year has taught me anything, we all could use a little more of that joy in our lives.

This month we welcome KryHavoc to our Cosplay Spotlight line-up. While new to our featured cosplayers, KryHavoc has been on our radar and shooting with us at conventions since way back in 2015. Please enjoy her Hawke from Dragon Age and Dark Rey all month long!!

(Also just sayin… Before there was an actual Dark Rey in the Star Wars films, KryHavoc was doing this cosplay. May the 4th Be With you!!)
