We’re spotlighting talent in the cosplay community!
Every month, The Variant showcases cosplayers who display talent, creativity, and a positive voice within the cosplay community.
Tamara Robertson was born and raised in a military family in eastern North Carolina. As a youth, she spent a large amount of time watching Star Trek, rebuilding engines, up-keeping the family cars and building / renovating homes. She learned her love of machinery, as well as all things technical, from her dad.
Tamara is one of the leading science hosts and engineering experts appearing on The Science Channel’s “Scijinks”, “Mythbusters”, and “Mythbusters Jr”. She is also a SAG-AFTRA actress working in Los Angeles, CA.
In the off season, she utilizes “Superhero Science” to inspire kids across the nation to pursue an education in S.T.E.M. through Comicon panels, outreach camps, and keynote speeches.
If you’ve been following The Variant, you’ll have seen pictures of Tamara in a few different cosplay photo shoots. We’ve shot her as Wasp and Robin (Carrie Kelly) but they were mini-shoots done spur of the moment at NC Comicon. This year we asked if she would like to be a Cosplay Spotlight and do a full set of pictures and she agreed!
Staff photographers Tomisina Lynn and Vic Greenfield put her through the ringer posing in not one, not two but three full sets of pictures of her favorite cosplays.
So for your May Cosplay Spotlight, we are extremely proud to present to you Tamara Robertson as Merida, Starfire & Spider-Gwen / Carnage!!!
WAIT!!…why are you still reading this??

The Variant is a community of writers, artists, cosplayers, photographers and most of all, fans of the comic book culture that strives to take an exclusive look into the world of comics, cosplay and conventions.
In a world where rehashed ideas are the standard, we instead choose to give a “Variant” outlook at the fandoms, comics, cons and cosplayers you all know and love.
