We’re spotlighting talent in the cosplay community!
Every month, The Variant showcases cosplayers who display talent, creativity, and a positive voice within the cosplay community.
This month we would like to welcome Variant newcomer Ev Costuming to the Spotlight!!
While perusing Instagram, our Director of Photography, Tomisina, saw Ev’s work and instantly fell in love. Simultaneously our editor-in-chief, RJ also saw Ev on Instagram and sent the link to Tomi.
The rest is, as they say, history.
Ev Costuming is a North Carolina based cosplayer who started creating cosplays after being inspired by all of the fantastic creators on the internet. This was cemented in place during her first trip to C2E2 in 2018. Ev is probably best known for her Assassin’s Creed Evie Frye cosplay which she was able to bring all the way to the Crown Championships of Cosplay at C2E2 in 2020.
Ev focuses on highly detailed cosplays from video games and films and uses a variety of mediums including hand and machine embroidery, resin casting, 3D printing and sewing to bring her designs to life. In the future, she hopes to continue making even more intricate cosplays and would like to start making tutorial videos to go with them. She is currently working on several new and exciting projects for 2021!
With both our fearless photogs (Tomisina Lynn & Greenfield Photography) on the scene we got some incredible pics of Ev’s Dr. Ziegler skin Mercy from Overwatch as well as her Nuka Cola Girl from Fallout which was shot on-site at Durham NC’s 21c Hotel & Museum.
WAIT!!…why are you still reading this??
GO CHECK OUT THE PICS!!!!

In a world where rehashed ideas are the standard, we instead choose to give a “Variant” outlook at the fandoms, comics, cons and cosplayers you all know and love.
