Luxavem!

We’re spotlighting talent in the cosplay community!
Every month, The Variant showcases cosplayers who display talent, creativity, and a positive voice within the cosplay community.

Welcome to September and a BRAND NEW COSPLAY SPOTLIGHT!!!
We’ve known Lux for a long time but the stars were just never aligned for it to happen.
Now, you will believe this girl can fly.
Here’s what they had to say:

“Hey there!
I’m Luxavem but my friends call me Lux or Nyx!
I’m a part-time cosplayer, a part-time princess, and a
full-time magical girl enthusiast.
I’ve been cosplaying for almost 10 years!

My first “cosplay” has never seen the light of day and
probably never will (Rest in Peace Petra from Attack on Titan. I loved your two
minutes of screen time). I more commonly say Star Guardian Lux was my first,
and one of the few that’s stuck around with me all this time! My first staff
for her was made from some cheap thermoplastics and molded using a star-shaped
bowl from the dollar store.

A good chunk of my cosplays are a collaboration between my
parents and me (my mom taught me how to sew and my dad helps me a lot with 3d
printing and modeling). They’re where a lot of my nerd comes from and I
definitely wouldn’t be doing this without their help. Growing up, my mom always
made all my Halloween costumes, so it pushed me in this direction.

Lately, I’ve been focusing on using what I have and
revamping old retired cosplays. I’m a big supporter of thrift-flipping for
costumes! My Supergirl cosplay is almost all thrifted (the cape is made out of
an old skirt), and a lot of my school Tamamo, too!

Some of my favorite fandoms to cosplay from are Fate Grand
Order, League of Legends, or anything magical girl! I can usually be found
running the League meetup at NC cons or people-watching. I am a super
friend-focused person and I am always happy to
hang out or do a group cosplay!”

We were excited when Lux brought us their Tamamo no Mae from Fate: Grand Order but we
were ecstatic when they brought us their Supergirl.

Stay Tuned for a third set coming soon!!
