Amberine Tangerine

We’re spotlighting talent in the cosplay community!
Every month, The Variant showcases cosplayers who display talent, creativity, and a positive voice within the cosplay community.

Howdy I’m Amberine, like the tangerine!

I’m a cosplayer born and raised in North Carolina. I taught myself to hand sew when I was 9 and would cut up old clothes and make random stuff. When I was 15 I discovered cosplay and from there I knew I was hooked. I started with just hand sewing costumes I could make out of my closet and I went from that point forward.

I have been cosplaying and following the cosplay community for years, but didn’t get to attend my first convention till Fayetteville Comic Con in 2021. I’ve only been to three cons and I’ve I met some amazing people and have been eager to go to more ever since!
I am a huge Pokemon nerd at heart too!!

I’m someone who loves to create. I love tedious work and getting into details with art and crafting my work. My husband, Jamison helps me too! I thought I would be nervous going out in cosplay but it’s so much fun to stand out in a crowd. I love it! Some characters I’ve done are Koga from Inuyasha, Inosuke from Demon Slayer, Bowsette and even an armored Sylveon!!

Anyone can cosplay and that will always be the motivation. Cosplay brings people together and we get to be our authentic selves!

We heard about Amberine last year as we were recruiting for our bi-annual #28DaysofBlackCosplaySpotlights feature and wanted to see if she was interested in being part of the fun. While she was unable to do it at the time, she popped up at a few conventions and after speaking and shooting with her in both the photo booth and with some of our media photographers we approached her about having her own Cosplay Spotlight this month. The stars aligned and the rest, as they say is history. Please enjoy our triple-feature of her gorgeous Bowsette & Inosuke shot by Fox Dream Photography and her stunning Jade shot by Tomisina Lynn Photography.

WAIT!!…why are you still reading this??
