We’re spotlighting talent in the cosplay community! Every month, The Variant showcases cosplayers who display talent, creativity, and a positive voice within the cosplay community.
Hey y’all! My name is Jamee aka TurtleG_ and I’m so excited to be The Variant’s Cosplay Spotlight this month!
Who am I?
I’m just your fellow blerd who likes to make you laugh and loves anything anime, manga, comics, cartoons; you name it!
I am a local cosplayer born and raised in North Carolina. I’ve been cosplaying since 2014, so it’s been 8 years! My first cosplay I ever did was Marceline the Vampire Queen from Adventure Time along with my first con which was Animazement in Raleigh, NC and the rest, as they say, is history!
Ever since I started this cosplay journey it has been nothing but a joy in my life. Everyday I’m learning something new, meeting new people and going to different places. I want to inspire everyone who is interested in cosplaying!!
It doesn’t matter what color, size, or shape you are, we are all just a bunch of nerds who represent what we love! I’m so glad to be doing what I do and I hope you stayed tuned for what I have planned for the future!
So we met TurtleG at Galaxycon Raleigh 2021 where she did a couple of shoots with Tomisina Lynn Photography. This year she was a part of our February 2022 #28DaysofBlackCosplay Spotlight along with 27 other outstanding cosplayers. We did most of those shoots at Ichibancon in Concord, NC back in January, and a bunch of us got snowed in at the Concord Convention Center. When we were finally able to leave, one of our other Cosplay Spotlights gave me a call and said one of their friends was stranded at the Charlotte bus station because of the snow. It was TurtleG!
We had some extra room so we picked up TurtleG and she proceeded to ride home and become BFF’s with Awkward Turtle Cosplay (because turtles). We loved her so much we kept her and she’s been coming to cons with us most of this year!!
For your September 2022 Cosplay Spotlight, TurtleG and The Variant Photography Director Tomisina Lynn brought us four INCREDIBLE cosplay photo shoots: Mina Ashido from My Hero Academia, Amira Ashid from Monster Prom, Yor Forger from Spy X Family and Panty Anarchy from Panty & Stocking!
BUT WAIT!! THERE’S MORE!!
We actually had so much content from this entire year of TurtleG coming to cons with us that we couldn’t fit it all into this Spotlight!!!
Stay Tuned all month long for these and a bunch of other great cosplays from this AMAZING cosplayer!!!
WAIT!!…why are you still reading this?? GO CHECK OUT THE PICS!!!!
The Variant is a community of writers, artists, cosplayers, photographers and most of all, fans of the comic book culture that strives to take an exclusive look into the world of comics, cosplay and conventions.
In a world where rehashed ideas are the standard, we instead choose to give a “Variant” outlook at the fandoms, comics, cons and cosplayers you all know and love.
